SIFE Unizulu’s workshop empowers developing co-operatives and farmers.

STUDENTS in free enterprise (SIFE) from Unizul conducted a knowledge feeding workshop for developing co-operatives and local farmers, last month before national competition at the University of Zululand main campus. The intended aim of the workshop, that was well organised by SIFE Unizul was to assist new developing co-operatives and local farmers. Department of Agriculture within UThungulu district municipality took part in the work shop for co-ops. Agriculture department represented by Mrs Dlamini addressed issues that currently impede maintenance and sustainability of newly emerging co-operatives.

Department of Agriculture representatives, Mrs Dlamini said, “Bringing about vivid information and clear understanding of programmes, that we as Agriculture department offer is mostly our priority”. Programmes that department of Agriculture specialises with, in ensuring that co-ops and young farmers do get hold of them were outlined in the workshop, Previewing workshops ranging from food security, massification and mechanisation just to name but the few. Farmers obtained best of luck to be informed of Agrarian revolution support mechanism initiated by the department in assisting young farmers.Small enterprise development agency (SEDA) also participated in the workshop for developing co-ops and farmers. SEDA presented ways for improving transformation of developing enterprises in our local municipality.

Sbusiso Ndwandwe who is the business advisor at SEDA in his presentation elaborated on how one can start the business. Ndwandwe said, “It very crucial that when ever you wish to establish a business, co-operative and farm starts by researching about it and test it”. SIFE Unizul members who were also part of the presentation displayed much of interest as they attentively listed to the presentation up to the end.

“Planning is of much concern when starting a business” said, Ndwandwe making examples for developing co-ops and farmers to make it more clearly to them. Writing of the effective business plan, regarded as the bankable business plan was out lined to assist co-ops to draft effective and palatable business plans to sponsors.Vela Mkhize, the economic development manager around UThungulu district was also present in the workshop to pave the way for young co-ops. Mkhize said as economic development department we aim at unlocking potential of entrepreneurs by providing frame work to facilitate provision of business.
