SIFE Unizulu introduce projects for 2009/2010

Students In Free Enterprise, University of Zululand (SIFE Unizulu) is the largest listed organization within our institution. The newly elected executive well introduced its projects that they intend to work with during the year of 2009/2010 period. On the 10th of October 2009, SIFE Unizulu projects members that are eager for great transformation in the community, gathered at Arts auditorium to present their projects so to help the community.

SIFE Unizulu has achieved its position in a remarkably short time, having being recognized in January this year. It has made transition from being a new organization into a successfully fast growing organization internally and externally in the SIFE environment. SIFE Unizul is value driven and vision guided. It revises and uses the clear and compelling vision to achieve real and lasting success. This organization remains as the catalyst of transformation, delivery in leadership and entrepreneurship as well as serve as the change agent.

On the day of projects presentation, intellectuals under construction which aims at improving the culture of reading together with uplifting reading abilities for learners for the surrounding schools went on first for the superb presentation. This project encourages the utmost importance for the usage of other languages in particularly English as it is mostly recognized as the international communication agent.

Student’s initiative which was also introduced on the day well presented its main objectives, clearly stating its intended outcomes. This is the project hardly determined to eliminate high percentage of crime, domestic violence and bring about awareness of what law is and its function for the local community and students of this university. This project intends to work in collaboration with South African Police Service (SAPS), Unizulu law students as well as local businesses. The project will strive to reduce crime yet providing economic uplift change.

Success is within project which has a goal to run a monthly published magazine on campus never let the golden opportunity to pass by they well voiced out their aim in the form of the perfect organized power point presentation. The magazine will be knowledge feeding yet providing essence of entertainment and amusement. Abalimi project, the agricultural based project already existing within SIFE Unizulu also show cased its potential about transforming and reshaping the society. This project revives the culture of growing crops to young people. Garden of plenty within Unizulu was granted to this project to out show its capabilities.

In July 2009, this project and Investing in young mind (I.Y.M) was fortunate enough to take part in SIFE South Africa competition, where 26 universities of South Africa gathered at the University of Johannesburg to present their projects. Abalimi placed University of Zululand on the lime light by coming back home with the trophy in the category of environmental sustainability.

The newly elected SIFE Unizulu president Mr X Cebekhulu said, “We stand on the frontline of developing our community and bring change in their lives by creating an economic opportunity for others.” These are the projects for 2009/2010 African contour, Agricultural marketing, Royal feast, entrepreneurial up lifters, intellectuals under contraction; Nduluka small businesses federation (NSBF)and student initiative.

Investing in young minds business plan competition, well conducted.

INVESTING in young minds project (I.Y.M), one of Students in Free Enterprise, University of Zululand (SIFE Unizulu) successful projects conducted its awesome business plan competition, on the 21st August 2009, at Unizulu student centre hall. This competition was conducted to encourage and empower entrepreneurship to youth at an early age. The competition drew attention of local high schools to take up the challenge. How, ever students who are also studying in the very same institution never let the golden opportunity pass by, hence they tabled their creativity in ink and paper.

Ongoye High, KwaDlangezwa high, Qhakaza high, Aquadene high and few Unizulu students took the podium to table their business plans. The competition was sponsored by Nedbank and Capitec. This sponsors worked had in ensuring provision of advice for future business women and men of South Africa. Participants battled for amount of R1000, which was up for grab. Whole process started accordingly, as participants initially commenced with great verve and vitality intending to walk away with the tabled prize.

As the competition unfolded, Dlangezwa high proved to have convinced judges and to have a more bankable business plan. Their business plan branded Siyabangena mobile yielded them amount of R1000 prize from the I.Y.M project. Dlangezwa high pupils that were gleaming joy fell their heads on heel as they were announced number one of the competition.
RCL chairperson, head girl and prefect Londiwe Dinga of DHS who was floating in the 9th cloud said, “We really appreciate the dedication of our principal for working in collaboration with us to make our business plan a success”. “I so wish that this business plan comes to reality and be recognized nationally and even internationally if possible”, said Dinga with the huge smile in her face.

I.Y.M, which is the branch of SIFE Unizulu, is the first project to make hands dirty this semester by conducting this program. Zamo Mbele, the project co – ordinator for I.Y.M said, “The competition was very prosperous with much creativity from our participants” Mbele continued on saying that, “We aim to increase participants and sponsors in our next competition, which will be probably conducted next year”. “I am very pleased with fairness and truthfulness of our judges, towards selecting position one of the competition”, said Mbele who was busy clearing every thing up as he was part of organizing team for the competition.

SIFE Unizulu’s workshop empowers developing co-operatives and farmers.

STUDENTS in free enterprise (SIFE) from Unizul conducted a knowledge feeding workshop for developing co-operatives and local farmers, last month before national competition at the University of Zululand main campus. The intended aim of the workshop, that was well organised by SIFE Unizul was to assist new developing co-operatives and local farmers. Department of Agriculture within UThungulu district municipality took part in the work shop for co-ops. Agriculture department represented by Mrs Dlamini addressed issues that currently impede maintenance and sustainability of newly emerging co-operatives.

Department of Agriculture representatives, Mrs Dlamini said, “Bringing about vivid information and clear understanding of programmes, that we as Agriculture department offer is mostly our priority”. Programmes that department of Agriculture specialises with, in ensuring that co-ops and young farmers do get hold of them were outlined in the workshop, Previewing workshops ranging from food security, massification and mechanisation just to name but the few. Farmers obtained best of luck to be informed of Agrarian revolution support mechanism initiated by the department in assisting young farmers.Small enterprise development agency (SEDA) also participated in the workshop for developing co-ops and farmers. SEDA presented ways for improving transformation of developing enterprises in our local municipality.

Sbusiso Ndwandwe who is the business advisor at SEDA in his presentation elaborated on how one can start the business. Ndwandwe said, “It very crucial that when ever you wish to establish a business, co-operative and farm starts by researching about it and test it”. SIFE Unizul members who were also part of the presentation displayed much of interest as they attentively listed to the presentation up to the end.

“Planning is of much concern when starting a business” said, Ndwandwe making examples for developing co-ops and farmers to make it more clearly to them. Writing of the effective business plan, regarded as the bankable business plan was out lined to assist co-ops to draft effective and palatable business plans to sponsors.Vela Mkhize, the economic development manager around UThungulu district was also present in the workshop to pave the way for young co-ops. Mkhize said as economic development department we aim at unlocking potential of entrepreneurs by providing frame work to facilitate provision of business.
